The Fiat 500 and the Fiat Panda will be joined by Hybrid Launch Editions, and will be the first Hybrid vehicles made by FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) to adopt this technology.
2020 marks a new milestone in the history of the Fiat brand. The electrification of the Fiat 500 and the Fiat Panda is the start of an exciting journey, with ongoing development of a fully electric Fiat 500 in Fiat’s hometown,
The 500 Mild Hybrid and Panda Mild Hybrid models will be arriving within the first quarter of 2020, and will hold all the benefits of efficient, compact and accessible hybrid driving. Fiat has been a pioneer in innovative mobility, and now looks to make that even more sustainable than before.
The 500 and Panda will be available with a new petrol mild hybrid engine that combines the latest 3-cylinder FireFly 1-litre engine family with a 12-volt BSG powertrain system that will provide an electric motor and a lithium battery that delivers 70hp (51kW). The peak power output of 70hp lays at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 92Nm at 3,500rpm.
The mild hybrid technology improves fuel efficiency which reduces CO2 emissions on the road by up to 30% without compromising on performance. The BSG system ensures a high standard of driving at all times, allowing for a quiet, vibration-free restart of the internal combustion engine in Stop&Start mode.
Energy is recovered by the system by braking and deceleration, and stores it in a lithium battery, which is then used to restart the engine in Stop&Start mode, and assists in acceleration of the vehicle. This technology allows the engine to switch off by switching into neutral, even at speeds below 18mph. The new designed dashboard will prompt the driver when to make the shift between petrol and hybrid.
The two Launch Edition models both hold a new 6-gear manual transmission, aimed to improve out-of-town driving. The new system also involves lowering the entire power unit 45mm so the car has better stability on the road, thanks to the lower centre of gravity.
This new special series can be recognised by the “Hybrid” logo on the rear and the new exclusive “H” symbol, formed by two dew drops, on the centre panel. The exterior on both models comes in an exclusive “Dew Green” paint, which blends harmoniously with the theme of nature and innovation.
Interior seats are first in the automotive sector to be made entirely of Seaqual Yarn, certified by Seaqual, which is the weaving of special material derived from recycled plastic, 10% of which originates from the sea and 90% from land.
The 500 and Panda are two Fiat icons, representing urban mobility throughout
